This One's For You, Jenny!

I have to say, I had a completely "Ontarian weekend." Cliche, some might say. But oh so good. I thought I might let you Western folk in on what we do out here in the summer.

Friday it was H.U.M.I.D. This seems to be an Ontarian curse. "It's not the heat" my mother says, "it's the humidity." I swear, you can never stay dry when it's this kinda heat... Sick, I know. But it was gross here. Plus, unlike out West, the air is, well, um, "not so good" so when it's hot and humid, it feels like the air is thick, like Jello. You feel incased in dirty Jello. Okay, enough description. To escape the grossness that is H.O., Heather (my oldest bud in the world) and I went out for dinner... To the MANDARIN! I've mentioned the Mandarin before, but I didn't really explain it. It's an all-you-can-eat Chinese food restaurant, with assorted goodies like shrimp and crab legs and waffle bars on the side. So basically, it's an eating fest. Heather and I got all hopped up on red dye number 4 and drove down the Q.E.W. singing our hearts out to Hotel California.

On Saturday we took the GO train (GO = Government of Ontario Transit) into Toronto for Caribana. Yes, that's right. The hugest calypso party alive. Scrap that, the hugest PARTY alive. It's the craziest experience ever, and even though my friends and I were farther from being Caribbean than anyone else there, it was good times. Huge parade. Huge dancing. Huge everything. We shopped down Queen street, ate at Mr. Greengenes in the Eaton Centre, and bought ice cream from a truck outside the old city hall. It was fantastic. But then we got stuck in 2 hour traffic on the 403 coming home... Oh Toronto... How I love you and your crowded, rage driven-driver ways.

On Sunday we went to Port Dover--beach town Ontario! Seriously, if any of you ever read "Mary Anne and Too Many Boys, #34" or "Sea City Here We Come, Superspecial #10" from the Babysitters Club series, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's on Lake Erie (which itself is not a swimable lake for any self respecting human--more dead fish than shells on the shoreline). But it's fun. Tacky, yes. Overcrowded, yes. But oh so good. It's full of bikers, and legendary foot long hot dog restaurants, and beach shops, and people in bikinis they should have thought twice about before wearing in public. But it's all good for me. I can't get enough. But I swear, I've never seen it busier than it was on Sunday! Everyone and their mother was there! And it wasn't even a Friday the 13th (every Friday the 13th bikers the world over--no lie--crowd to Port Dover. No idea why.)

So, that's my weekend in a nut shell (not literally, cause then both me and the entire weekend would be really small, but that's a conversation for another time, maybe). This one was for you, Jenny. A little somethin' somethin' to remember Ontario by. I hope you all had wonderful weekends too! Do tell! I want all the juicy gossip!

Oh Jenny. Everything you write makes me giggle. I wish I had known Tobin was going to Caribana... That woulda' been fun. Don't be sad though. I've just gotten up and I'm sweating already. Ew. Not attractive, as my mother would say.
If it helps any, I miss Edmonton.

Okay, I have to say I didn't ever have sympathy for the East with their claims of "humidity." But this summer is killing me! And everyone in Ottawa keeps saying things like "We've had a cool summer this year" or "We haven't had some of those really humid days yet." I don't think there's been a dry heat yet. Even when it rains it doesn't cool down. What sort of hell is this? 2.5 weeks till I'm back in lovely Saskatchewan!

One word for you, Keri. Slurpee. I swear, my family and I keep 7-11 alive and well based on our accumulative Slurpee purchases. Go and get one, and put penny candies in it 'till they get all frozen and yummy and you can eat them. It's the only way to do it.

Well but that's another thing! I can't find any 7-11's or Mac's. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. But I currently have no slurpee supplier. I've had to rely on iced coffees. Man I don't want to be at work today. The morning is going by slowly. Wish it was the weekend still.

Lunch time!

See, I was thinking about taking the Database class too, but then I wouldn't be able to take either Young Adult literature, Multimedia or Collections Management. Why can't they put some of the good classes in the winter? There's nothing I want to take in the winter.

I'm taking Database Management and I'm very excited about it! I think everyone should get on board. I can't believe how long this day is. It's still only 4pm. I think it's because my boss isn't here, so I don't feel obliged to work and, as a result, the staring-out-the-window / checking-out-the-blog time moves slowly.

Aaargh!! It's only 3:30 here. I'm passing the time by stealing short glimpses of Val. It's the only way to stay sane.
